Abstract:

"Technology is present in all areas of our lives, and do the technology competencies we use in education affect our use of technology in other fields?" The aim of this study, which started with the question above, is to reveal the relationship between the technology competencies of students studying at associate degree level and technology addiction. Technology is used for educational purposes in schools. However, technology is used by students in their daily lives for other purposes, too. In this direction, in order to test the relationship between information and communication technologies competencies and technology addiction, the pieces of information about the students studying at the Kırşehir Ahi Evran University in the fall semester of the 2018-2019 academic year were used. In the study, two separate scales were combined and applied to associate degree students in order to analyze the relationship between the Information and Communication Technologies Competencies (ICT) of the students and Technology Addiction (TB). In line with the answers received from the students, the data analysis of the scales was made and interpreted by statistical measure (arithmetic mean, standard deviation) and correlation analysis. The analyses of the results of the Information and Communication Technologies Competencies and Technology Addiction show that there are significant differences in the direction of the gender variable. In terms of the correlation analysis, it was concluded that there is a positive relationship between information and communication technologies competencies and technology addiction at the significance level of 0.01.
