Dil; konuşma, anlama, okuma, yazma, tekrarlama ve adlandırma gibi farklı birçok bilişsel süreçten meydana gelmektedir. Bu süreçlerin oluşmasını sağlayan basamaklarda meydana gelen hasarlar sonucu, sonradan oluşan bir dil kaybı olan afazi gelişmektedir. Afazili hastalarda en önemli sorun iletişim güçlüğüdür. Bu hastalarda iletişimi zorlaştıran en önemli unsur ise adlandırma sorunudur. Bu araştırmada afazili hastaların iletişimini güçleştiren adlandırma sorununun dilbilim açısından incelenmesi hedeflenmektedir. Araştırmanın amaçları, Türk afazili hastaların nesne ve eylem adlandırma becerilerinin tutuk ve akıcı afazi türleri ile ilişkisini ortaya koymak, sözcük sıklığı faktörünün nesne adlandırmadaki rolünü belirlemek, eylemlerin geçişlilik özelliğinin eylem adlandırmadaki etkisini saptamak ve afazili hastaların verilerini kontrol grubundan elde edilen veriler ile karşılaştırmaktır. Çalışmada 14’ü tutuk, 10’u akıcı afazi özelliğine sahip 24 hasta grubu ve 21 sağlıklı bireyden oluşan kontrol grubu yer almaktadır. Araştırma kapsamında hastalara Ege Afazi Testi ile genel dil değerlendirmesi yapılmış, daha sonra deneklerin adlandırma yetisini ölçmek için Uluslararası Resim Adlandırma Ölçeği baz alınarak oluşturulan Resim Ölçeği uygulanmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda, afazili hastaların nesne adlandırma becerilerinin eylem becerilerine oranla daha iyi korunduğu görülmüş, akıcı afazili hastaların nesne ve eylem adlandırma becerileri arasında anlamlı bir farka rastlanmazken, tutuk afazili hastaların nesne adlandırma becerilerinin eylem adlandırma becerilerine oranla daha iyi korunduğu saptanmıştır. Ayrıca, sözcük sıklığının nesne adlandırmada olumlu etkisi gözlemlenirken, hastaların geçişli ve geçişsiz eylemleri adlandırma oranları arasında anlamlı bir fark bulunmamıştır.
