Abstract:

This study aims to reveal the spend habits of students registered in public universities’ bachelor’s programs and to share the findings obtained with the university administration, authorities and families. The research was carried out with 391 students studying at the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture of İzmir Katip Çelebi University, Faculty of Economic Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Islamic Sciences, Faculty of Dental Medicine and Faculty of Tourism. The variable depending on the study is the student’s spending habits ( accommodation, nutrition, clothing, entertainment, transportation, smoking, care, book / resource, communication, sport / culture, alcohol, landscape, electronics, health, luck games), while the independent variable is some of the individual characteristics of the bachelor’s students. The average monthly spending of students is 1182 TL. When spending penses are examined, it is seen that accommodation, food, clothing and entertainment occupy the most place, respectively. The student’s spending habits differ statistically in terms of gender and the registered faculty variables. Ear-kek students spend more in total than female students. On the other hand, in terms of faculties variation, it seems that students studying at the Faculty of Tourism spend more than students studying at all other faculties and the difference is statistically significant. 76.2 per cent of students shop online, 35 per cent say they can save and 35.6 per cent of students using credit cards say they can’t pay credit card debt. 93.8 percent of students receive a loan or a scholarship.
