Bu araştırmada, ortaokul 5. Sınıf Türkçe ders kitabının okunabilirlik ve yaş düzeyine uygunluk açılarından değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma, betimsel bir çalışmadır. Veriler, doküman incelemesi yoluyla toplanmıştır. İncelenen doküman, 2017-2018 eğitim-öğretim yılında Milli Eğitim Bakanlığına bağlı okullarda okutulması önerilen ortaokul 5. sınıf ‘Türkçe’ ders kitabıdır. Araştırmanın amacına yönelik olarak her ünitede bulunan metinlerin ilk 100 kelimesi rastgele seçilmiş ve okunabilirlikleri Flesch-Kincaid Formülü, Gunning Fog İndeksi ve Ateşman tarafından Türkçe için geliştirilen formüllere göre hesaplanmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda; ortaokul beşinci sınıf Türkçe ders kitabının metinlerinin okunabilirlik düzeylerinin zor olduğu ve okutulan öğrencilerin yaşlarına uygun olmadığı anlaşılmaktadır. Ortaokul 5. sınıf Türkçe ders kitabındaki metinlerin, Flesch-Kincaid formülüne göre incelendiğinde çok zor ve okunabilirlik yaşının ise 22 ve üstü olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Gunning Fog İndeksi formülüne göre okunabilirlik seviyesi açısından zor olduğu belirlenmiştir. Ateşman formülüne göre metinlerin okunabilirlik seviyesi açısından beş metnin orta güçlükte, üç metnin kolay olduğu, genel ortalamaya bakıldığında ise orta güçlükte olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Ders kitabı metinlerinin tümünün Felsch-Kincaid ve Gunning Fog İndeks formüllerinin ortalamalarına göre çok zor olduğu, Ateşman’a göre ise orta güçlükte olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Araştırmada elde edilen sonuçlar doğrultusunda, ders kitaplarındaki metinler öğrencilerin özelliklerine göre düzenlenmeli, hazırlanan kitaplardaki metinlerin okunabilirlik seviyeleri ve yaş düzeyine uygun olup olmadığı, kitaplar okutulmaya başlanmadan önce incelenmesi önerilebilir.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the 5th grade secondary school Turkish course book in terms of readability and age level. Descriptive research design and document analysis were used in the study. The analysed document is the secondary school 5th grade 'Turkish' course book which is recommended to be taught in schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in 2017-2018 academic year. For the purpose of the study, the first a hundred words of the texts in each unit were randomly selected and their readability was calculated according to the formulas developed by Flesch-Kincaid Formula, Gunning Fog Index and Ateşman for Turkish formulas. As a result of the research; the texts in the fifth grade Turkish course book of secondary school were very difficult when investigated according to the Flesch-Kincaid formula and the readability age was 22 and above. According to the Gunning Fog Index formula, it was determined that it was difficult in terms of readability level. According to the Ateşman formula, five texts were reached with medium difficulty, three texts being easy, and medium difficulty when looking at the general average. All of the texts of the course books were found to be very difficult compared to the Felsch-Kincaid and Gunning Fog Index formulas, and moderate to severe according to Atesman. According to the obtained data, it can be said that the texts in the fifth grade Turkish course book of the middle school are not appropriate for the level of the students. In line with the results of the research, it can be recommended that texts in the course books should be arranged according to the characteristics of the students.
