Abstract:

This study aims to reveal the relationship between school managers’ toxic leadership behaviors and teachers’ level of organizational commitment. The study was conducted within the framework of the correlation research from the interrelational scan approaches, with 291 teachers working in primary and secondary schools located in the center of the Rize province. The study used the "Personal and Professional Information Form" for determining the demographic information of teachers for the purpose of gathering data, the "Toxic Leadership Scale" and the "Organization Engagement Scale" for determining the demographic information of teachers.  The analysis of the data included correlation analysis, regression analysis, t-test, one-way variance analysis (ANOVA), Mann Whitney U test and Kruskal Wallis H test. The research finds that teachers’ toxic leadership perceptions are low, and the level of organizational commitment is medium, while a high level of meaningful relationship between these two variables has been detected in the negative direction. Teachers' perceptions of toxic leadership and organizational commitment differ by age variable; they have not been shown to differ by gender, civil status, branch and service year variable. It has also turned out that toxic leadership behavior is an important contributor to organizational commitment.
