Abstract:

Dialects, no doubt, are one of the most important issue in our language waiting to be research. Today, dialects are increasingly forgotten and getting extinct because of reasons like increasingly widespread of technology and used in the villages, increase of lettered in the country wide and increase of rural-urban migration. In this article we aim to determine and study the words, phrases and idioms used in the dialect of Zara (Sivas) that are either not included or used in different meanings in the General Dialect Dictionary (Derleme Sözlüğü). These linguistic materials are classified and analysed under the rubrics of idioms, nouns, adjectives, adverbs, exclamations and verbs.
