Abstract:

This study aims to study the attitudes of high school students to the course of science and biology and the impact of the enrichment of some subjects of the course of biology with scientific history materials on the concepts of the nature of science. The research is a semi-experimental study and used a pre-test-son-test control group model. In the 2015-2016 Education-Teaching Year, a class experiment randomly selected from the 11th classes of a state high school in Istanbul, the other class participated as a control group. In the application of the research, the subjects in the class in the control group "Energy Transformations in Animals" units are processed with the current teaching approaches and resources that are often used, while the class in the experiment group is processed with the use of scientific history materials in addition to these teaching approaches and resources.In the study, as a data collection tool, before and after the application, the "Scientific Attitude Scale", the "Scientific Nature Faith Scale" and the "Scientific Biology Course Attitude Scale" are applied. Before the research, there was no significant difference in the scientific attitudes of students in the experiment and control groups, in the beliefs of the nature of science and in the attitudes towards the course of biology. The collected data was evaluated by T-Test analysis for independent and dependent samples. As a result, the use of scientific history materials in courses has been shown to lead to positive changes in high school students’ attitudes to science, beliefs in the nature of science and attitudes towards the course of biology.
