ÖZ: Virginia Üniversitesi İngiliz Edebiyatı ve Karşılaştırmalı Edebiyat profesörü Rita Felski, “Edebiyat Ne İşe Yarar? (Uses of Literature)” adlı yapıtında edebiyatın işlevlerini özgün bir sınıflamayla ele almış ve bu işlevleri “tanıma, büyüleme, bilgilendirme, şaşırtma” olmak üzere dört ana başlık altında incelemiştir. Bu çalışmada, Felski’nin yapmış olduğu bu sınıflamadan hareketle çocuk edebiyatının temel işlevleri incelenmeye ve yorumlanmaya çalışılmıştır. Edebiyatın tanıma, büyüleme, bilgilendirme ve şaşırtma işlevlerinin gerçekleştirilmesinde çocuk edebiyatının nasıl bir sorumluluk üstlendiği/üstlenmesi gerektiği çeşitli görüş ve düşüncelerin tanıklığında tartışılmıştır. Rita Felski, Professor of English Literature and Comparative Literature at the University of Virginia, says: "What is literature useful? In his work "Uses of Literature" he addressed the functions of literature with an original classification and examined these functions under four main titles: "recognition, charming, informing, surprising". In this study, it was attempted to study and interpret the basic functions of children's literature by moving from this classification that Felski made. In the realization of the recognition, charming, informing and surprising functions of literature, various opinions and opinions were discussed in the witness of the responsibility of child literature should be assumed/supported.
