Abstract:

In comparison with other European countries, Sweden has been a country that has long preserved its moderate, tolerant and equal refugee policies. The refugee policies in Sweden have been carried out until the late 1980s, in an unprecedented way, with the cooperation of political parties with different ideologies. At the beginning of the 1990s, the crowds who left their countries for a variety of reasons (solution of the East-Blood countries, the wars in the Balkans, economic crises, dictatorship governments) prefered Sweden, resulted in a disruption of the inter-party cooperation that wasined in a relatively stable refugee policy and triggered inter-party disagreements. The discrepancies between the political parties about the significantly increasing number of refugees in the late 1990s and the 2000s have become a crisis with the record number of refugees in 2015 with a majority of refugees in Syria. In fact, according to the 2016 OECD data, Sweden has become a country that accepts refugees in proportion to its population compared to other European countries, this situation has alarmed the country’s policy. As a result, a clear 'U' return has been experienced in the refugee policies and speeches of political parties. In this context, this study focuses on the change in the refugee policies in Sweden and in the refugee policies and speeches of the political parties after the 2015 refugee crisis.
