Bu yazıda öncelikle “Cengiz” ismi ve “Aytmatov” soyismi hakkında söylenenler özetlenmiştir. İkinci olarak bu söylenenler delillendirilerek tartışılmış ve şu sonuçlara ulaşılmıştır: “Cengiz” ismi hakim olan görüşteki gibi “deniz” anlamına gelmektedir. “Aytmatov” ismi ise “söylemez” anlamı ile izah edenlerin aksine Arapça “ıyd” ve “Muhammed” kelimelerinin kaynaşması yoluyla oluşmuş birleşik bir isimdir.
