Arapça’da “Erba’în” Farsça’da ise “Hadîs-i Çihil”, Hz. Peygamber’in kırk seçme hadisini ihtiva eden eserlere denir. Kırk hadis çalışmaları, hicretin ikinci asrın sonundan itibaren başlamış ve daha sonra gelişerek Arap, Türk, İran ve diğer Müslüman milletlerin edebiyatında zengin bir yer edinmiştir. Manzum ve nesir şeklinde yazılan erba’înlere Müslümanlar yaşadıkları her coğrafyada rağbet göstermişlerdir. Tarih boyunca Hz. Peygamber’in hadis ve sünnetine hassasiyet gösteren Müslümanlar, hadisleri daima bir ibadet edasıyla ezberlemiş ve müzakere etmişlerdir. Özellikle Hz. Peygamber’den nakledilen; “Ümmetim içinde din emirlerine dair kırk hadis ezberleyeni Allah Teâlâ, kıyamet günü fakihler ve âlimler zümresi içinde diriltir” rivayeti, Müslümanlar arasında kırk hadis yazma geleneğinin oluşmasında etkili olmuştur. Birçok âlim ve şair eserlerini kırk hadis veya erba’în denilen eserler şeklinde tasnif etmişlerdir. Erba’în yazan âlimlerden birisi de Mevlana İdris-i Bitlisî (ö. 926/1520)’dir. İdris-i Bitlisî, II. Bayezid ve Yavuz Sultan Selim döneminde Osmanlı devletinde danışmanlık gibi önemli hizmetlerde bulunmuş bir âlimdir. Osmanlı Sarayında siyasette başarılı olan ve daha çok “Heşt Bihişt” (Sekiz Cennet) adlı Osmanlı tarihine dair eseri ile tanınan Bitlisî, başta Farsça olmak üzere Arapça ve Türkçe dillerinde önemli eserler bırakmıştır. Bu çalışmada el yazma halinde olan Bitlisî’nin “Hadîs-i Çihil” adlı eseri hadis ilimleri açısından incelenecek, eserin yazılış amacı, muhtevası ve eserdeki hadisler, sıhhat açısından tespit edilip değerlendirilecektir.
