The outstanding historian, academician Yagub Mahmudov is the aksakal (aksakal - one who has authority) of not only Azerbaijani historians, but also of the entire Turkic world. As the director of the Institute of History of ANAS, he contributes to the development and establishment of scientific ties with scientists from foreign countries. Yagub Mahmudov pays great attention to the collection and publication of archival documents about Azerbaijan from many countries of the world, works tirelessly on writing and promoting books covering all aspects of Azerbaijan’s history. Those, who work with him, learn from Yagub Mahmudov valuable methods and approaches to historical events, historical personalities, to establish contacts with scientists from other countries, and most importantly - the development of historical science in Azerbaijan. The Director of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, Academician Yagub Mahmudov, plays an important role in the training of highly skilled specialists - historians in Azerbaijan. The process of establishing contacts with the scientists of the Turkic world under the leadership of Yagub Mahmudov, the signing of protocols on cooperation and, most importantly, writing and studying the history of states and personalities of the Turkic world has began and continues successfully today. This process is also reflected in the secondary school textbooks. This article is dedicated to the jubilee of Yagub Mahmudov, the aksakal of Turkic world historians, who uttered the historical phrase: It is necessary to unite the whole Turkic world in the brain”.
