Abstract:

The purpose of this research is to study the levels of empathic tendencies and empathic skills of teachers candidates studying in the Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching. The study included a total of 141 students who studied at the Anatolian University, Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching. As a data collection tool, "Empatic Trend Scale", "Empatic Skills Scale-B Form" and "Personal Information Form" have been used. T test and ANOVA were preferred for data analysis. According to the research results, the teacher candidates’ empathic tendency and empathic skills score average are found to be on a medium level. Furthermore, both the empathic tendency and the empathic skill scores of the teacher candidates have not had a statistically significant difference in terms of gender, class level, parental education, active sporting and sporting levels. As a result, considering the teaching profession, it can be said that the level of empathic skills of the teacher candidates is not sufficient and that the level of empathic skills with empathic education can be developed.
