4. Sınıf Sosyal Bilgiler Dersinde Coğrafya konularının Öğretimine İlişkin Öğretmen Görüşlerinin İncelenmesi

Abstract:

Coğrafya, içeriği, konusu ve inceleme alanları açısından doğa bilimleri, sosyal ve beşeri bilimlerle yakından ilişkili olan multidisipliner bir bilim olarak tanımlanır. Bununla birlikte bazı konuları temel eğitim düzeyinden başlayarak eğitimin diğer kademelerinde de yer alan coğrafya bilimi, ezberci, soyut kavramlar içerdiği ve yer yer sıkıcı bir niteliğe sahip olduğu şeklinde eleştirilere maruz kalmıştır. Ancak bireylere coğrafi bilinç, günlük yaşam becerileri ve küresel bir bakış açısı kazandırmada etkili olan coğrafya bilimi önemini her zaman korumuştur. Bu araştırmanın amacı, 4. sınıf sosyal bilgiler dersinde yer alan bazı coğrafya konularının öğretiminin öğretmen görüşlerine göre incelenmesidir. Nitel olarak tasarlanan bu çalışmada durum çalışması deseni kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın katılımcılarını 2018-2019 eğitim-öğretim yılında halen görevde bulunan ve 4. sınıf sosyal bilgiler dersini yürütmüş 27 sınıf öğretmeni oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmanın verileri yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formuyla elde edilmiş ve veriler içerik analizi tekniği kullanılarak değerlendirilmiştir. Araştırmada ulaşılan bulgulara göre, sosyal bilgiler dersinde coğrafya konularının öğretilmesine yönelik öğrenci başarısını etkileyen çeşitli olumlu ve olumsuz faktörlerin olduğu, yöntem ve teknik olarak genellikle düz anlatım ve soru-cevapların tercih edildiği, araç-gereç ve materyal olarak harita ve model kürelerin kullanıldığı tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca öğretmenler bazı coğrafi kavram ve konuların öğretilmesinde ise çeşitli zorluklar yaşadıklarını belirtmişlerdir.

Abstract:

Geography is defined as a multidisciplinary science in terms of its content, subject and field of study, which is closely related to social and human sciences, In addition, geography has sometimes been exposed to various criticisms. However, geography has alwaysined its importance in providing individuals with geographic awareness, daily life skills and a global perspective. The aim of this study is to examine the teaching of some geography subjects in 4th grade social studies course according to the opinions of the teachers. In this study, which is designed as a qualitative examination, case study design is used. The participants of the study consists of 27 primary teachers, who are currently working in the 2018-2019 academic year and have lectured 4th grade social studies courses. The data were obtained with a semi-structured interview form and evaluated by using descriptive analysis and content analysis techniques. According to the findings of the study there were various positive and negative factors affecting student success in teaching geography subjects in social studies class. It was also found that direct instruction method and catechize is generally used as training method. Map and model spheres were used as teaching materials. Teachers also stated that they experienced various difficulties in teaching some geographical concepts and subjects.
