Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to explain the gerund structures in Turkish, compare them with the gerund structures in Russian, reveal their similarities and differences, and approach the subject on the basis of translation. The fact that this subject has not been studied much in terms of translation studies has made it necessary to carry out the study. In particular, the issue of solving the problems encountered in the transfer of gerund structures, which are frequently encountered in the translation from Turkish to Russian, has been discussed and solutions have been presented. The fact that each language has its own structure causes some difficulties in translating it into the target language. During the translation, the grammatical, stylistic and semantic structures of the source and target languages are examined and the way to be followed is also emphasized here. The fact that Turkish and Russian belong to different language families emerge as the determining reasons for the differences in the rules specific to these languages. Therefore, the way to be followed in translating the gerunds into Russian, which is determined by considering the linguistic features of both languages, is explained, and the equivalence of these structures in Russian is analyzed. One of the aims of this study is to show and explain the ways that should be followed in translating grammatical structures in Turkish, especially for students learning Russian as a foreign language.
