Abstract:

Verbs are words that act as the building blocks of sentences in all languages. For all international students learning Russian as a second foreign language, the Verbal Aspect category constitutes one of the most difficult grammatical subjects. This is due to the fact that the Verbal Aspect category in Russian language is very intricately intertwined with other grammatical categories, on the one hand, and lexical categories – on the other hand. For this reason, sometimes it is not so easy to separate the meaning of Aspect from the lexical meaning as well as from the meaning of Time and Mood. None of the Russian verbs lacks semantic signs of aspect category and they inevitably contribute to the whole sentence`s sense. Thus aspectual senses (iterativity, single action; processuality, instantaneousness, limiting/unlimiting, completeness/result; general fact, perfectivity) construct a certain layer of Russian sentence sense. The international students` ability to operate them appears as an important component of Communicative Competence both in Speech Production and Speech Perception. Both Russian and foreign researchers have significantly developed the main methodological approaches and methods for describing the Verbal Aspect category. However, there are also questions in this field that have not yet found a clear answer. Accordingly, it is especially important to continue research in this sphere from the point of view of Comparative Linguistics. In this study, we intend to systematize basic meanings of Verbal Aspect category, aiming at presenting them to the Turkish students together with transparent illustrations of using them. Also the aim of this paper is to analyze the modern methodological approaches, actual for teaching this subject, and provide commentaries and professional suggestions. The material of study is taken from literary texts and the colloquial speech.
