Özet:

On the 11th anniversary of the start of the war in Syria, Syrian migration affects Turkey and Gaziantep. The news reports of Syrian refugees are also published in the Gaziantep local press. These news reports reproduce the value judgments about Syrian refugees in society. In this study, the presentations of Syrian refugees in the Gaziantep local press are examined. Purpose: The study’s first aim is to examine the theme, definition, and word preferences of Syrian refugees in Gaziantep local press news. The other purpose of the study is to compare the current data with a research carried out four years ago. Method: In the research, the news in six newspapers from the Gaziantep local press is analyzed with qualitative content analysis. The study covers the period between March 2021 and March 2022. These results are then compared with the study conducted in 2017. Findings: There is no positive change in the presentations of Syrian refugees in different periods in newspapers. In addition, recently, examples of new forms of exclusionary practices have been identified in the local press. Originality: The research compares with a previous study and reveals the current content of the Syrian descriptions in the Gaziantep local press.
