Abstract:

Nowadays, it is seen that the need to learn a foreign language is increasing rapidly in the consequence of political, military, commercial and /or touristic factors . The need to learn a foreign language may arise due to political, military, commercial and touristic reasons as a result of cultural interaction. It is natural that some problems arise due to various factors in the process of learning a foreign language. The cultural dimension, the similarities and inconsistencies in the language structure between the mother tongue and the target language are among the factors affecting this process. In this context, the cultural background of the learner groups, the characteristics of the target language and the differences between the mother tongue and the target language are among the prominent variables and factors affecting learning. Furthermore, the methods and techniques used in the language learning process are also of great importance. The aim of this study is to present the ideas related to “language problems” encountered by Arabic students studying in Turkey and the solution suggestions for these problems. In the language learning process, besides the problems such as different sentence structure of Turkish, the pronunciation of some letters, the presence of many accents, there are a number of different problems such as adopting a grammar-oriented teaching, adaptation and participation in language learning. In order to clarify said problems, both culture and “different structures of Arabic-Turkish language pair” have been analyzed comparatively. The research have been evaluated under three main titles, namely “the structural differences of languages”, “the method followed by the teacher in the language teaching process” and “the problems arising from the students” according to the importance of the problems. As a result of the research, various solution suggestions have been offered by making findings and determinations that main problems arising from the difference of the languages are based on some issues such as phonetics, morphology, stylistics (style) and semantics. In addition, after the effect and the role of language teacher, used materials and the sources in the learning process have been determined, student-based problems have been included with the solution suggestions.
