Özet:

Different opinions and controversial issues that emerged between the madhhabs were discussed extensively among the scholars of the Ottoman period as well as throughout history. However, many works and authors have remained far from the attention of today's researchers, especially due to the fact that the manuscripts that were compiled during the Ottoman period were not written in today's Latin alphabet, and most of them were written in Arabic letters. The author of Risalah al-Munciyya, which is deemed to be highly valuable in the field of History of Islamic Sects, although Ahmed al-Marashi (d. 1165/1752) is one of the important scholars raised by the Ottoman Empire, he has not been the subject of much academic interest. Ahmed al-Marashi is a distinguished scholar, not just because of the period and the region he lived in but also thanks to the works he produced. al-Marashi, who died in the middle of the 18th century, has a prominent place among Ottoman scholars. Although there is limited information on his life, when his surviving works and topics of interest are scrutinized, it can be argued that he followed the issues in his era closely and had a character that was determined to offer solutions to the likely problems in the future. Hence, it would not be wrong to define him as an up-to-date scholar. The sources do not indicate detailed information on his death, his works, his son who was also a scholar like him, and the duties he undertook. He is known as Marashi, due to his birthplace and Debbagi (tanner), due to his livelihood. He compiled written works in various disciplines of Islamic sciences. Yet, these works are kept in different libraries as recorded manuscripts, and, as these works are not presented to contemporary readers, Marashi is not well-known in scientific circles. Especially, his works and remarks on Kalam and the History of the Madhabs are remarkable in terms of Hanafi school and Maturidi theology understandings, in addition to shedding light on the Ottoman society back then. Other than Kalam, he produced significant works on the sciences of Tafsir, Logic, and Qira’ah (Quran Recitation). The study aims to introduce al-Marashi’s life, works, and scientific personality and ensure that he gets the value he deserves within the scientific community.
