Teknolojinin ve internetin yaygınlaşmasıyla birlikte sosyal medya ağlarının da kullanımı giderek artmaya başlamıştır. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter gibi yaygın olarak kullanılan sosyal medya ağlarının gençlerin tutumları ve duygulanımları üzerinde önemli etkileri olduğu bilinmektedir. Bu araştırmada, Instagram kullanan ve kullanmayan ergenlerin beden algıları ve öz-yeterlik inançları arasında bazı değişkenlere göre anlamlı bir farklılık olup olmadığının araştırılması amaçlanmıştır. İlişkisel tarama modeline göre tasarlanan bu çalışmanın katılımcılarını %63,7’si kadın ve %36,3’ü erkek olmak üzere toplam 790 lise öğrencisi oluşturmuştur. Araştırmanın verileri Beden Algısı Ölçeği, Genel Özyeterlik Ölçeği ve Kişisel Bilgi Formu aracılığıyla toplanmıştır. Analizlerde frekans dağılımı, aritmetik ortalama, bağımsız örneklemler için t testi ve tek yönlü varyans analizi (ANOVA) kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgulara göre genel öz-yeterlik ve alt boyutlarının Instagram kullanma durumuna göre anlamlı farklılık göstermediği ancak beden algısının anlamlı farklılık gösterdiği saptanmıştır. Buna göre, Instagram kullanan ergenlerin beden algısı puanı daha yüksektir. Instagram kullanan ve kullanmayan ergenler kendi aralarında cinsiyete göre karşılaştırıldığında her iki grupta da erkeklerin ortalamaları kadınlardan anlamlı olarak daha yüksek çıkmıştır. Facebook kullanma durumuna göre ise hem beden algısı puanının hem de genel öz-yeterlik alt boyut puanlarının anlamlı farklılıklar gösterdiği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgular alanyazın eşliğinde tartışılmış ve önerilerde bulunulmuştur.
With the spread of technology and the internet, the use of social media networks has also begun to increase. It is known that the widely used social media networks such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter have a significant impact on the attitudes and emotions of young people. This study aims to investigate whether there is a significant difference between body perceptions and self-sufficiency beliefs of adolescents who use and do not use Instagram. According to the Relational Scanning Model, a total of 790 high school students, including 63.7 percent women and 36.3 percent men, participated in this study. The data of the study was collected through the body perception scale, the general self-sufficiency scale and the personal information form. Analysis used frequency distribution, arithmetic average, t test for independent samples and one-way variance analysis (ANOVA). According to the findings obtained, the overall self-sufficiency and subdimensions have not shown significant differences according to the status of use of Instagram; but the perception of the body has shown significant differences. According to this, the body perception score of adolescents using Instagram is higher. When adolescents who use and don’t use Instagram compared to each other by gender, the average of men in both groups was significantly higher than women. According to the use situation of Facebook, it has been achieved that both body perception points and general self-sufficiency sub-dimensional points show significant differences. The findings obtained from the research were discussed alongside the area and presented in recommendations.
