deWhat you already know gives everyone the strength to continue learning and achieving higher success goals. In third language teaching, the learner takes advantage of favourable learning opportunities from the first foreign language English, in the context of German as a Foreign Language after English (GFLaE). By sensitizing the language comparison and raising awareness of language learning experiences, learners can achieve secure learning success in GFL lessons with their existing language skills. In order to consciously activate the learners' input from the English language, optimal learning situations must be provided. In this context, an intercultural area is to be created in third language teaching, where the similarities and differences between English and German can be worked on. The idioms can be important as socio-cultural competence for the integration into the GFLaE -lessons. This work focuses on the integration of idiomatic expressions into third language teaching. The English and German idioms were analyzed for GFLaE teaching and categorized as idioms with absolute similarity, idioms with partial similarity and idioms with contextual similarity. After determining the idioms for third language teaching GFLaE, it was important to think about how to put these idioms into practice as a GFL teacher in third language teaching. Some ways of inclusion with examples were suggested. The visualization of the idioms can be used effectively by the teacher, especially at the elementary level, and thus give an important impetus for expanding the vocabulary. The other two ways of inclusion on the trail of idioms and contextual situations of idioms can be used at other levels after the learners get used to the idioms. With the intercultural comparison of idiomatic expressions, learning motivation, language awareness and at the same time learner autonomy can be promoted.
