Öz Her toplumun kültüre özgü değerleri vardır. Kültüre özgü bu değerler, ebeveynlerin çocuk yetiştirme tutum ve davranışlarını belirleyebilir. Toplulukçu değerleri içinde barındıran bir toplumdan, bireyci değerleri ön planda tutan bir topluluğa göç eden, ebeveynlerin çocuk yetiştirirken kendi kültürel kimliklerini sürdürüp sürdürmedikleri, çocukları ile iletişim kurarken hangi kültürel kodları ne gibi sebeplerden dolayı benimsedikleri kültürel bağlamda derinlemesine incelenmesi gerektiği düşünülen bir konudur. Hollanda’da yaşayan Türk kökenli annelerin farklı kültürde çocuk yetiştirmeye yönelik görüşlerinin incelenmesi amacıyla gerçekleştirilen bu araştırmanın çalışma grubunu en az 10 senedir Amsterdam’da yaşayan 14 Türk kökenli anne oluşturmuştur. Nitel araştırma yöntemi ile tasarlanan bu araştırmada anne görüşlerinin incelenmesi amacıyla ‘‘disiplin yöntemleri’’, ‘‘kontrol’’ ve ‘‘Hollanda kültürüne özgü etkiler’’ temaları üzerinden annelerle derinlemesine görüşmeler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmanın sonucunda, Hollanda’da yaşayan Türk kökenli annelerin çocuk yetiştirirken farklı görüşleri benimsediği, çocuk yetiştirme konusunda bireysel amaç ve özerkliğe önem veren bir toplum içinde annelerin geleneksel toplulukçu değerlerini göz ardı etmediği ancak din, dil, eğitim ve kültürel farklılıklardan dolayı birtakım zorluklarla karşı karşıya kaldıkları belirlenmiştir. İlgili bulgular literatür çerçevesinde tartışılmış olup annelere, araştırmacılara öneriler verilmiştir. Every society has its own cultural values. These cultural values can determine the parents’ attitude and behavior to raise children. It is a matter that is considered to be deeply studied in the cultural context that parents maintain or not their cultural identity while raising children, from a society that contains communist values to a community that holds individual values in the forefront, and which cultural codes they adopt for what reasons when communicating with their children. The study was conducted with the aim of studying the views of Turkish-born mothers living in the Netherlands to raise children in different cultures, and the study group formed 14 Turkish-born mothers living in Amsterdam for 10 years. In this study, designed by a quality research method, the mother’s opinions were studied through the themes “disciplinary methods”, “control” and “impact on the Dutch culture” in order to study the mother’s opinions. The study found that in a society where Turkish mothers living in the Netherlands adopted different opinions when raising children, in which mothers did not ignore their traditional socialist values in respect of their individual purpose and autonomy, but they faced a number of difficulties due to religious, linguistic, educational and cultural differences. Interesting findings were discussed in the literary framework and recommendations were given to mothers, researchers. Abstract Each society has its own culture-specific values. These culture-specific values can determine the attitudes and behaviors of parents towards child rearing. It requires an in-depth examination within the cultural context to understand whether parents maintain their cultural identities while raising and rearing their children and, for what reasons and which cultural codes they adopt when communicating with their children. The study population consists of mothers of Turkish origin living in Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands for at least 10 years and 14 mothers determined by the snowball method are included in the study. In this study, which was designed by qualitative research method, in-depth interviews were conducted with mothers in order to examine mother's views, based on the themes “disciplinary methods”, “controlling”, and “effects specific to Dutch culture”. In conclusion, it is concluded that the mothers in the study population adopt different behavior styles while raising children in another culture. In a society that attaches importance to individual values and autonomy in raising children, mothers do not disregard traditional collectivist values, but sometimes face some difficulties. Related findings were discussed in the light of literature and depending on these findings, some recommendations is proposed for mothers and researchers.
