The fundamental of Namik Kemal is to enlighten the public using literature. He uses the theatre as an instrument to reach his objectives. His play Vatan Yahut Silistre (Homeland or Silistre) purtraying the Crimean War, is one of the most typical models of the romantic theatre in Turkish Literature history. The play tells the sacrificing story of the soldiers fighting for the Silistre Castle. Through the story the writer tries to settle the ideas of patriotism, love of motherland and fighting for it by emphasising the concepts of sacrifice and heroism.
