Kur’an’da “hadis” kelimesi; söz, haber, öğüt, ibretli hikaye vd anlamlara gelir. İslam literatüründe hadis denilince ilk olarak akla Hz. Peygamberin sözleri gelir. Kur’an’da geçen hadis kelimesi ile Hz. Peygamberin sözlerini ifade eden hadis kelimesi arasında lügat ve terim bakımından bir alaka olup olmadığı araştırmaya değer bir konudur. Bizim yaptığımız araştırmada aralarında sadece lügat bakımından bir ilişki olduğu anlaşılmıştır. Kur’an’da hadis kelimesi, anlamdaşları kelime ve kavl kelimeleri ile birlikte geniş bir anlam alanına sahiptir
