Abstract The aim of this study was to explore the reading habits of prospective art teachers depending on their gender, class and personality traits. The subject group of the research consisted of 179 students (29 freshmen, 45 sophomores, 59 juniors and 46 seniors) studying Art Education in the department of Fine Arts Education at the Fatih Faculty of Education at Karadeniz Technical University. The prospective teachers participated in the research were composed of 116 females and 63 males. Research findings revealed that while female students had better reading habits than the students, there was no statistically significant difference with respect to their classes. Although the analysis of the sub-dimensions of the personality test measuring the reading habits and personality traits showed no significant correlation in terms of emotional instability; positive correlations were found in the sub-dimensions of extroversion, open-mindedness, leniency and responsibility.
