This study aims to examine the resilience levels of senior high school students in the context of their metaphorical perception of the university entrance exam and their five-factor personality traits. The study group consists of 971 senior high school students. The Child and Youth Resilience Measure, the Adjective Based Personality Test and the Personal Information Form were used to determine the metaphorical perception of the university exam. Content analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA and stepwise regression analysis were used to analyze the data. The study found 68.9% of the senior high school students produced metaphors with negative emotions such as anger-reproach, stress, fear, while 27.9% produced metaphors of hope. Re-categorization of these metaphors, as regards the perception of exam as opportunity/threat, revealed resilience of senior high school students who perceive the university entrance exam as an opportunity is higher than those who perceive the exam as a threat. Furthermore, the five-factor personality traits were analyzed whether to predict resilience as regards perceiving the university entrance exam as an opportunity or threat. It was found conscientiousness, neuroticism and extroversion, which are the sub-dimension of five-factor personality traits, significantly predicted resilience in both groups. However, those who perceived the university entrance exam as a threat, openness and agreeableness following conscientiousness, neuroticism and extroversion were found to be significant predictors of resilience. The study revealed the resilience of high school seniors is the main determinant of their perception of the university exam and personality traits therefore, it is important to develop positive perceptions about the university exam.
