This study attempted to investigate leadership roles of primary school principals. It was conducted in the districts of Şahinbey and Şehitkamil in Gaziantep in the academic year of 2004-2005. The sample consists of 719 teachers from 31 primary schools in 13 areas. Data were gathered using a questionnaire which consists of two parts: (1) demographic information, (2) questions on visionary, educational, cultural, and transformational leadership roles of primary school principals. The data were analyzed by using mean, standart deviation, t-test and one-way analysis of variance. The results indicated that statistically there was no significant relationship between the perception of teachers about the leadership roles of principals and their gender, age, school they graduated from, occupational standing, duration in school, and duty. The study indicated that the principals exercise visionary leadership roles the most, and cultural leadership roles the least.
