Modern manada matbaanın ortaya çıkışı burjuvazi sınıfının haber alma ihtiyacı ile birleşince Avrupa’da 17. Yüzyılın başından itibaren gazeteler ortaya çıkmayı başlamıştır. İngiltere’de bu süreç yaşanmıştır. Önce gazetelerin öncülleri olan haber bültenleri şeklinde corantoslar yayınlanmıştır. Haber alma faaliyetlerin kontrol altına alınması için harekete geçen Krallık 1666 yılının Şubat ayından itibaren The London Gazette adlı resmi bir gazetenin yayını gerçekleştirmiştir. Haber kaynakları arasında Birleşik Krallığı’n yurtdışı temsilcilikleri de bulunan The London Gazette Türk tarihi ile çok sayıda bilgi bulunmaktadır. Ana kaynak değeri taşıyan gazetenin bilgi verdiği konular arasında Nadir Şah dönemi Osmanlı-İran ilişkileri de bulunmaktadır. Bu döneme dair gazetenin temel kaynakları İstanbul ile S. Petersburg’ta bulunan İngiliz elçilikleridir. Gazete bu dönemde yayınlanan haberler arasında, Nadir Şah’ın Osmanlılara karşı kaybettiği Dücum, kazandığı Kerkük zaferi, Topal Osman Paşa’nın ölümü, iki devlet arasında gerçekleşen çatışmalar ve barış görüşmeleri yer almaktadır.

Among the news sources there is a lot of information about the Turkish history in the London Gazette, which is also located in the UK’s foreign representations. Among the topics that the newspaper provides information is the Ottoman-Iran relations of the Rare Shah period. The main sources of the newspaper about this period are the British ambassades located in Istanbul and St. Petersburg. The newspapers published during this period include the Duchum that the Rare Shah lost against the Ottoman, the Kerkuk victory he won, the death of Topal Osman Pasha, the conflicts between the two states and peace talks.
