(Towards 12th World Congress of Accounting Historians) The 12th World Congress of Accounting Historians will be held 20-24 July 2008 in Istanbul with nearly 240 papers and with the participation of approximately 500 participants from nearly 50 different countries. A Congress, which approximately thirty five universities from Turkey will participate to and which is supported by nearly twenty five professional chambers and public institutions, is being held. This congress is a consequence of four years endeavors. In the first three years of this period, the efforts were focused on foreign countries, when the last year focused on Turkey. 88 papers are submitted from Turkey, when 149 papers are submitted by 46 different countries. This is the first accounting historians’ congress that is held in Middle East and Balkans. As such, this congress is accepted as an opportunity to introduce the deep accounting culture of this geography and this is the trigger of all endeavors for the Congress. More than half of the participant countries are the countries in this geography and developing countries from different parts of the world. Consequently, it will not be a mistake to say that this congress has a fundamental importance to make the studies on accounting history widespread all over the world. Nevertheless, it should be stated here that this Congress will contribute to present and introduce the rich trading and accounting culture of Anatolia to the World.
