Abstract:

The aim of this study is to study the effects of violent video games on adolescent aggression trends. The study was carried out in the district of Tunceli.The participants consist of 75 men and 75 girls aged between 11 and 16. 94.6 percent of participants are unable to access the computer or video slot console in their households and have played this kind of game for the first time. First, the participants were applied a demographic form of information and the Buss-Perry Aggression Scale. Then the participants were randomly assigned to 4 experimental groups and played the violent (GTA) and non-violent skill game (Tumblebugs) for 2 hours or 15 minutes. Five days later, the scale of aggression was reapplicated. The violent type of game, the time of play and the interaction effect of these variables has been found to increase the post-tester tendency after the pre-test points were checked. Students who played for longer (2 hours) violent games had an aggressive score significantly higher than those who played for less (15 minutes). The results of the study were discussed in the light of literature. The findings of the study are validating the opinions that claim that violent computer games will increase the tendency to aggression.
