Knowledge mounts up varies and is conveyed through different channels in each passing day Media includes all the circles that contain and convey the knowledge itself It is crucial for the young that are sensitive and affected easily to learn about the structure and running of the mass media to evaluate the fictionalized media content consciously and watch critically in other words to be media literates When reviewing the literature in general although it is stated that there is a relationship between critical thinking and media literacy it has not been come across with a research that puts forward the relationship between these two concepts Therefore the relationship between media and television literacy and critical thinking disposition is scrutinized in this study The relational screening model is applied in this study and put into practice with 402 12th grade high school students that are chosen according to the intentional sampling method among different school levels from state and private schools In the study “California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory” that Kökdemir 2003 have adjusted and “Media and Television Literacy Level Determination Scale” which developed by Korkmaz and Yeşil 2011 are used Descriptive and Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient have been used in the data analysis At the end of the study; the findings have been as follows; the average media and television literacy levels of the students are high their dependence levels are low and their general critical thinking disposition point is low Furthermore it has been ensued that there is a positive relationship between the students’ general critical thinking disposition points and their literacy levels Keywords: Literacy Media and Television Literacy Thinking Critical Thinking
