Disasters of last 12 years (e.g. 9/11 attacks, influenza, Haiti earthquake, Eyjafjallajökull volcano eruption, global financial crisis and Japan nuclear disaster) are changing the risk perception of 21st century rapidly. The inevitable consequence of this was a remarkable breakthrough in the management methodologies developed to better deal with disasters, mitigate their impacts and assure the continuity of mission critical activities. Business Continuity and Crisis Management underpin those methodologies. The primary goal of this study is to get to first base with the emergent holistic approach in the community, by clarifying concepts frequently causing confusion in praxis. In this respect, following the identification of the interference between Business Continuity and Crisis Management, the drivers of a successful crisis communication - the most critical element of Crisis Management - are being studied and exemplified by a case study.
