Gazi Bodur Hüseyin Pasha (Hüseyin Pasha the Short), was born in Taşlıca (Pljevlja), which is now within the borders of Montenegro. He was in charge of important military and administrative organizations in the Ottoman Empire through devshirme by Sokollu Mehmed Pasha. When he was a sanjakbey in Herzegovina, he established a foundation on behalf of his name in Taşlıca, which was the center of the sanjak and also his hometown. Taşlıca was quickly transformed into an Ottoman city thanks to the works which were built by Hüseyin Pasha. Hüseyin Pasha Foundation certificate charter has not been found yet. Therefore, the information about the foundation can be obtained from the records of two main archives in the archive of the Directorate General of Foundations and from the Book of Travels of Evliya Çelebi, The foundation established by Gazi Bodur Hüseyin Pasha includes a mosque, a school, a madrasah, an inn, a caravansaray, a hammam and an imaret. In this regard, serving the purpose as an educational, social, cultural and worship institutions of a certain region is also valid for Hüseyin Pasha Foundation like many other Ottoman foundations. This article aims to give information about Gazi Bodur Hüseyin Pasha’s foundation works in Karadağ, Taşlıca in light of the related documents.
