Rapid develeopment of the technology opened a new era in the forms of production and consumption. The reflections of these developments on the lifestyles of individuals are increasing day by day. This technological transformation also manifests itself in the tourism sector with augmented reality and virtual reality applications, and it is spreading with remarkable examples in the world day by day. Therefore, this study aims to examine the national tourism literature on augmented reality and virtual reality applications, identify the gaps and, provide suggestions for future studies through a systematic method. To this end, 32 articles on augmented reality and virtual reality applications were included in the scope of the study. Findings indicate that the studies in the literature mainly focus on tourism marketing and museology, mostly utilise qualitative methods, and most of them consist of conceptual studies. Moreover, the lack of studies based on theory and empirical data in the national literature emerged as the most striking result. In the light of these findings, model suggestions for future studies are presented.
