Communication is at the heart of every success. The ability of people to work in mutual cooperation depends on communicating with each other. Communication in the organization is classified formal and informal communication. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of informal communication between organizational hierarchies on organizational commitment. There are researches in the literature that the inadequacy of formal communication has an adverse effect on organizational commitment. However, no research has been found on how informal communication has affected organizational commitment. Within the scope of the research, in order to determine the status of informal communication; we have asked employees whether they have been in communication with other employees including their subordinates, supervisors and equivalence both in and out of organization. In addition, it has been investigated whether this situation is meaningful in terms of sectors and departments. The data were collected from 405 people working in public and private sectors. As a result of the research; informal communication influenced organizational commitment, and this situation did not differ between departments and sectors.
