The term ‘dialect’ mostly refers to the concepts of billingsgate, public language, and informal language, and it is often mistaken for the term accent. The variances of dialects compared to those of the standard languages are generally found odd. This stems from the lack of firm connections to a source. The dialects of Trabzon draw attention due to its features such as preserving the voice properties which are associated with the Old Turkish Language, displaying the traces of the change and improvements in the Turkish language in different periods throughout history, the same vowel and consonant letters with the Old Turkish Language, the irregularity of labial harmony, the sound of nasal “n” [ñ], the functional verbs acting as lexical words and the use of dual verbs based on the texts of Uyghur Turkish Language. This study deals with the above mentioned features in relation to Trabzon Tonya dialects based on the following sources: The Grammatical Properties of Trabzon Tonya Dialect and Tonya Dictionary by Hasan Kalyoncu and Compilation Dictionary by Turkish Language Association.
