Abstract:

Nowadays, many patients are operated for the treatment of various diseases. However patients often experienced symptoms such as anxiety, pain, nausea and vomiting in perioperative period. These symptoms cause delaying in wound healing time and increasing the lenght of stay hospital, increasing in infection risk and health care cost and decreasing in the quality of health care of patient. To prevent these symptoms analgesics, anxiolytics and antiemetics are used usually. But in the studies, it was detected that there are side effects of these drugs such as breathing problems, nausea, gastrointestinal bleeding, itchind etc. Due to side effects of these drugs, it is needed to nonpharmacological therapies. Aromatherapy is one of the nonpharmacological therapies which is often preferred. In the literature, there are studies which show the effect of aromatherapy on symptoms are seen often in perioperative period. In this review, it was aimed to inform about used aromatherapy methods and their effects in control of perioperative symptoms
