Abstract:

The aim of this study is to adapt the "Science Motivation Questionnaire-2" scale, which aims to determine the levels and types of motivation of students developed by Glynn, Brickman, Armstrong and Taasoobshirazi (2011) and to conduct validity and reliability analyses. The original scale is in English and consists of five factors and 25 items. The scale adaptation stages were followed and the language equivalent of the scale translated into Turkish was tested. The scale created later was applied to a total of 617 students in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th classes who are studying in five high schools. In the analysis of the data obtained, the structure validity of the scale was analyzed and verifying factors were analyzed, while the reliability of the scale was calculated by the Cronbach Alpha ratio. According to the results of the analysis, the motivation scale in science education consists of 22 matters and 5 subfactors (internal motivation, career motivation, self-determination, self-quality, not motivation). The Cronbach Alpha ratio is 0.83. According to this, the motivation scale in science education has been determined as a valid and reliable scale that can be used to determine the level and types of motivation for high school students.
