Abstract:

The aim of this study is to explore the impact of exports and economic growth on environmental quality. The scope of the study is the selected MENA countries and the period is 1980-2016. The method has been used by the horizontal cut dependency test, Delta test, PANIC unit root test, LM Bootstrap Panel Integration, AMG ratio predictor and Emirmahmutoğlu and Köse (2011) causality test. All variables are stable in the first difference and have a long-term relationship. According to the results obtained, there was a statistically meaningful and positive relationship between economic growth and carbon dioxide emissions in the MENA countries. However, there is no statistically meaningful relationship between exports and carbon dioxide emissions. The panel causality test also found that there was a bilateral causality relationship between both export and economic growth and carbon dioxide emissions.
