Abstract:

The aim of this study is to determine whether there is a meaningful relationship between the teachers’ organizational silence and the level of loneliness in the work life, by identifying their views of organizational silence and the level of loneliness in the work life. In this context, the data collection tool was used as the Simpatial and Organizational Silence Measure in Business Life. The Employment Life Solitude Measurement (YYY) was developed by Wright, Burt and Strongman (2006) to measure the solitude that employees experience in the business life, adapted to Turkish by Doğan, Çetin, Zungur (2009). In order to measure the behavior of teachers towards organizational silence, the scale developed by Dyne, Ang & Botero (2003) was named the Organizational Silence Scale (OSC) adapted to Turkish. The study was applied to 102 teachers who worked in the Bolu or Central Anadolu high schools in the 2012-2013 educational year. Some of the findings related to the study are: Gender variable did not make a difference in both scales. Working time at school has not been seen as a variable affecting silence and loneliness. The consistent dimension of the organizational silence scale of teachers and the subdimensions of defense silence and the emotional absence and social friendship dimensions, which are the only subdimensions of the scale in the business life, have been found in a medium-level positive relationship.
