Abstract:

Although the writing of dictionaries of Turkish vocabulary can be traced back to very old times, practices of “Lexicography”, which studies it as a discipline, are still fairly new in Turkey. The field of metalexicography, which is not related to practice (creating dictionaries) in lexicography and is about making researches on existing dictionaries and generating knowledge and theory about them, provides significant clues about writing historical and modern Turkish language dictionaries in an ideal way. In this study, Tarama Dictionary, prepared by Turkish Language Association as a work of collective study which reached its very last form after several phases, will be analyzed within the principles of lexicography. As it exhibits the historical process of Turkish language in terms of vocabulary in Anatolian geography with witnesses, native and foreign researchers interested in the field frequently refer to this dictionary. Also, which arrangements should be done in order for it to keep the place it deserves will be mentioned in detail.
