Abstract:

Turkmen dialect, a dialect of South-Western Turkic Language, takes place among Oguz grup together with Turkish. In this study, being an important indication of folk culture and oral literature, proverbs, in both dialects, are compared and the similarities and differences in the meanings are stated. It was considered that such a study will help researchers to make comparison of Turkish dialecs with each other and Turkish language with other languages. The results showed that the proverbs in both dialects are very similar in terms of structure and meaning. Very limited numbers of dissimilar or opposite proverbs were found
