Abstract:

The first edition of the 1945 Turkish Dictionary contains 32,104 dictionaries. In the last edition of 2011 (11. edition), this number rose to 92.292. The continuation of the scan of new literary works will make this number increase. The discovery of the work that structurally deals with the Turkish Dictionary enables a more accurate assessment of the materials in the Dictionary. In the Turkish Dictionary, some words with different roots and different meanings are materialized under a single dictionary unit. In our study we have identified 36 equivocating words that have different meanings and roots. These words are listed under 18 articles in the Turkish Dictionary. The distinction of these dictionary units in the Turkish Dictionary is important for the creation of an etymologically more accurate dictionary and for the creation of the number of dictionary units that the Turkish Dictionary possesses.
