Abstract:

Listening and reading skills are receptive language skills that are used extensively in education. Successes in these skills, which are aimed to be taught in a systematic way with the transition to education and training, have an important place in both language skills and academic skills of students. For this reason, it becomes important to consider individual differences in educational activities for the development of these skills. Special talented/gifted students are among the groups whose individual differences should be taken into account. It is important to determine the listening comprehension and reading comprehension skills of these individuals, who have different characteristics from their peers, and to differentiate the teaching process accordingly. For this reason, in this study, it was aimed to examine the listening and reading comprehension skills of gifted students, which are receptive language skills, in line with various demographic information. For this purpose, a sample group of 246 people, 181 fifth grade and 65 sixth grade gifted students, were selected as a sample group in two different science and art centers in Istanbul in the 2021-2022 academic year. In line with the purpose of the research, data were collected with the relational survey model. SPSS package program was used in the analysis of the data. According to the results obtained, the listening and reading comprehension skills of the 5th grade students are higher than the 6th grade students. Girls' listening and reading comprehension skills are higher than boys'. It has been determined that there is a significant relationship between reading comprehension and listening comprehension skills of gifted students.
