Abstract:

It is aimed to develop students' ability to use evidence, questioning and critical thinking skills by mentioning evidence in various parts of the Social Studies Curriculum. In this study, which was carried out to reveal how evidence-based activities affect the academic achievement of students, action research, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. “Liberating/developing/critical approach, one of the action research types, was used in the research. The participants of the research were determined by easily accessible case sampling. In this context, the application of the research was carried out with 7th grade students in the fall semester of the 2021-2022 academic year. Research data, evidence-based activities, classroom communication records, academic achievement assessment exams and student products were used. Research data were processed with content analysis. According to the results of the research, it can be said that a significant part of the products produced by the students are in the “Good” and “Very Good” categories. With the analysis of the data, it was concluded that there was a significant increase in the averages of the academic achievement assessment exam performed before and after the evidence-based learning after the application.
