Abstract:

This article examines the proximity between Yugoslavia and Egypt between 1955-1967 and the impact of these relations on the Muslim society in Yugoslavia. After the trouble with the Soviet Union, Tito, who is looking for a new alliance, begins a new formation with Jamal Abdülnasir, who came to power in Egypt, another Mediterranean country. The Unconnected Movement, which is headed by these two names, is born as an alternative to the dual-pole system of the Cold War. Both governments set themselves against the West Bloc. Turkey is outside of this structure. The close relationship between Yugoslavia and Egypt is based primarily on military and economic interests. But this process also affects the Muslims in Yugoslavia over time. Egypt’s reputation among the Muslim community in Yugoslavia is increasing, and especially in terms of educated Muslims, Istanbul is starting to take place in Cairo. Although Yugoslav-Egyptian relations are weakening over time, this process prepares the ground for the birth of a new elite closer to the Arab world, especially between the Bosnians.
