Bu çalışmanın amacı, profesyonel ve amatör futbolcuların statü değişkeni bakımından başarı motivasyonu farklılıklarını ortaya koymaktır. Çalışma evreni 2007-2008 futbol sezonunda Ankara bölgesinde faal olan profesyonel ve amatör futbolculardan seçilmiştir. Örneklem grubu ise 232 profesyonel 544 amatör futbolcudan oluşmaktadır Araştırma örneklemine giren profesyonel futbolcuların yaşları 18 ile 32 arasında değişmektedir. Bu grubun yaş ortalaması 24.28; standart sapması 3.21’dir. Amatör futbolcuların yaşları ise 18 ile 33 arasında değişmektedir. Bu grubun yaş ortalaması da 22.93; standart sapması 3.77’dir. Araştırmaya ilişkin bulguların elde edilmesinde “Spora Özgü Başarı Motivasyonu Ölçeği” kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada sonucunda, çalışmaya katılan futbolcuların Güç Gösterme Güdüsü alt boyutu puan ortalamaları arasında, profesyonel futbolcular lehine anlamlı bir farklılık vardır t=3.029, p≤0.01 . Profesyonel futbolcuların puan ortalaması 39.50 amatör futbolcuların puan ortalamasından 38.78 daha yüksektir. Başarıya Yaklaşma Güdüsü alt boyutu puan ortalamaları arasında, amatör futbolcular lehine anlamlı bir farklılık vardır t=-2.014, p≤0.05 . Amatör futbolcuların puan ortalaması 64.04 profesyonel futbolcuların puan ortalamasından 63.00 daha yüksektir. Güç Gösterme Güdüsü alt boyutu puan ortalamaları arasında, profesyonel futbolcular lehine anlamlı bir farklılık vardır t=2.491, p≤0.05 . Profesyonel futbolcuların puan ortalaması 31.45 amatör futbolcuların puan ortalamasından 30.31 daha yüksektir.
