Abstract:

This study was conducted in order to evaluate the care burden and life satisfaction of the relatives who provide home care to the elderly people who are in transition from home care to institutional care. Due to the increasing need for elderly care services in recent years, the demand for institutional care among the elderly has increased rapidly in recent years. However, since the capacities of public nursing homes are full, especially in big cities, applications are put in the order of acceptance; If a place is opened, the elderly are admitted to the institution. During this period, home care of the elderly continues and the period for the elderly to enter the institution cannot be predicted exactly. Caregivers apply to the institution for care at the last moment they run out of power; Since they do not know the admission order and duration of the elderly in advance, the time to wait for transition to the institution affects their care burden and life satisfaction. Qualitative research method and phenomenological design were used in the study. In this study, the results obtained by conducting in-depth interviews with 36 people who are admitted to institutional care in public nursing homes and who car efor the elderly waiting in line were analyzed using the Maxqda qualitative data analysis program. As a result of the study, it was determined that the care burden of caregivers increased and their life satisfaction was negatively affected during the transition to institutional care and waiting for the order of acceptance.
