Abstract:

This study, which is planned to identify, was done to determine the attitudes of students working with disabilities towards disabilities. The universe of research, Yozgat Bozok University and Bartın University Health Services Professional High School of Elderly Care, Child Development and Home Patient Care Program formed 2nd-class students. A total of 362 students participated voluntarily in the study, with a participation rate of 86.2%. The data is gathered with the 'Status of Attitude to Persons Affected by Insufficiency' (YEKYTÖ) to determine the form and attitudes of information. The average score that students received from YEKYTÖ was 55.30±12.32 (for girls 55.580±12.271, for men 54.154±12.532). The students’ UNICEF score average has not been distinguished by gender, income status, the presence of a disabled person in the family and the program they study. A statistical difference is determined between the scale scores and the mother's education status and the father's education status (respectively F=3.36, p=0.036; F=3.47, p=0.032). Parents with higher levels of education have found more positive attitudes. 17.1 per cent of students said they felt anxiety from taking care of a disabled person, and 15.3 per cent said they felt anxiety. The conclusion is that the students’ attitudes are generally positive, and they need closer guidance and support in the training process to cope with the negative emotions they experience while working with disabled persons.
