Abstract:

This study was carried out to gather information about the problems experienced by women in their post-nuptial life who are unofficially married under the age of 18 because they get married at an early age. Qualitative research method was used in the study and interviews were conducted with 20 women living in Istanbul who had a religious marriage before the age of 18. A semi-structured interview form was used during the interviews. As a result of the research it was determined that early marriages cause various problems at the individual and social level. Among the problems caused by early marriages at the individual level are violence, sexual abuse, deprivation of education, financial difficulties and psychological problems caused by responsibilities at an early age. Among the social problems caused by early marriages are the impact of the family structure of the society, the decrease in the level of education and poverty.
